Burning Hut

My wonderful visiting teacher-Debbie C.- came by last night to share her monthly message. I am so grateful for her. She is a wonderful person and I have the great privilege of serving with her in the YW presidency. She shared this poster from this month's Ensign. I just love this picture. I think sometimes we forget how much we are loved and looked after- I know that I am guilty of this. It just so happens that earlier that day,I received an email from my friend Melissa with a pretty amazing message. It was:

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, "God! How could you do this to me?" Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.
The Moral of This Story:It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground.

I must have really needed to hear this message, and I am so grateful for it. Life is very hard sometimes. We all go through trials and it is hard to understand why. A few weeks ago, I was having a very ruff week. I felt so horrible and wondered if I had been forgotten. Sometimes I dwell too much on what is lacking in my life and fail to see all the wonderful things that I am continually blessed with. I have an amazing and wonderful husband, who is my best friend in every way. There is really no one that I would rather spend my days with. I have the gospel in my life. I have an amazing family-both mine and my husband's. We have a beautiful home and all the comforts we could possibly ever need. I have a great calling that is so fun and brings me great joy- I love all my YW and I get to serve with great women. Plus, I get to work with my husband in church, since he is the YM president and I am the 1st counsellor in YW-we get to go to activities together, and I love that. Not to mention the cutest little puppy that loves to give little kisses when we get home from work. I have great friends. I am truly blessed. I just wanted to write this down...

I hate you for making me cry! Thank you so much for sharing that story. Yesterday I was having a lot of the same feelings, and I had to remember that Heavenly Father has a plan for all of us. Your post reminded me of that yet again this morning. Thanks little sis'!

I agree with you. Debbie is great and I also tend to forget that Jesus loves me and that I am special, no matter what!
We're glad you're here.
